HISTORY:
The Delphian Society created and organized a fund for a Public Library in Fairfax in 1922. All civic organizations
of the city pledged financial support to this fund. By April of 1923, books began to circulate and in the same year the first library
board was appointed. The library was located on the second floor of city hall. In 1927, the library was duly organized under regulations
of the Oklahoma Library Commission. Beginning on July 1, 1928 or 1929 (records show both dates), the city of Fairfax took entire charge
of the Fairfax Public Library. On August 29, 1961, construction of a new library building began. The library moved into its new location
158 E. Elm on August 29, 1962. We are located in this same building today.
